Synchronisation between the East and West sides of the bridge is achieved by careful selection of the hydraulic cylinder dimensions and a system of hydraulic valves.  The new control system is designed to be easily upgraded to incorporate power operated pedestrian barriers or gates and user operation if these become necessary in the future.
